Stefan first contacted me in 2022, based on our common interests in software and systems architecture. Since then, we have collaborated as independent consultants specialized in the systems and software architecture domain.
He has provided valuable feedback and review for a project I am involved with: the on-going revision of the IEEE Computer Society’s “Guide to the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBoK)”. In particular, he has offered detailed review of the new knowledge area on Software Architecture and the review of the updated knowledge area on Software Design. Stefan has also shared with me his ambitious plans for developing an Architecture Practice Library (APL), using the OMG Essence standard as a foundation for documenting and interlinking architecture practices. Recently, Stefan has also contributed to the public reviews of drafts in the areas of “Architecture Fundamentals” and “Reference Architectures”. These drafts are future joint standards of the IEEE Computer Society and the International Standards Organization (ISO).
Stefan shares my goals of integrating research and academic perspectives, standardization with guidance for practicing architects in industry and government. He is actively promoting the usage of existing architecture concepts and practices to facilitate organizational changes and support architecture-related activities in the industry. Our collaboration will be valuable to capture synergy between the APL and Essence with the family of ISO/IEC/IEEE 42000 series of architecture standards which I hope will advance the discipline of architecture.
Stefan demonstrates both deep and broad knowledge of software architecture and related disciplines, and the ability to focus both on the big picture and the details. I enjoy working with Stefan; I look forward to our continued collaboration and I heartily recommend him as software/systems architecture consultant.
